Dressage World Breeding Championships for Young Horses Cancelled

Doubts arising while planning the event have led to the cancellation of the Championships

The Dressage World Breeding Championships for Young Horses was to be held between the 9th and 13th of December in Virden Germany, but the venue organizers have cancelled the event By nature, it is a very international event, which is precisely the motivation for its cancellation A few weeks ago, the FEI and the Organizing Committee designed additional measures for their venue protocols to try and mitigate Covid-19 risks and move forward with a safe, closed-door event However, after several meetings, the organizers decided that cancelling the event was the best and only option, based on the progress of the pandemic  Although Germany has no legislation to hinder the celebration of sports events when subject to special protection measures, and the national situation is not excessively critical, there are other very different and strict measure that have been implemented in other countries These include quarantine, travel and flight requirements, etc The organizers do not want to put participants and judges at risk when the holiday season is just around the corner "Initially, we decided to postpone the Championships until December, as we hoped that the situation would allow us to hold the event, even with limited numbers However, the health and well-being of all those involved is paramount and we cannot allow participants to travel long distances to then have access problems or be unable to return home due to quarantines imposed just before Christmas,” Wilken Treu, Championship Director and Director of the Hanoverian Breeding Federation explained
