First Recipient of TDF's P.R.E./Pure Spanish Horses Fund Grant Announced

2024.01.10

January 11, 2024 – The Dressage Foundation (TDF) is pleased to announce the first recipient of the Pure Spanish Horse/Pura Raza Española (P.R.E.) Fund as Katherine Poulin (OH) and Cariñoso CA.

Katherine is a USDF bronze, silver, and gold medalist with distinction and a USDF Certified Instructor. She lives in Ohio where she manages a training and teaching business. She is a past participant in TDF's Young Rider Dream Program. Katherine will use the grant funding to train with Stacey Hastings and Christoph Hess on Gayle Rusk’s nine-year-old P.R.E. gelding, Cariñoso CA. Cariñoso CA was the 2023 International Andalusian and Lusitano Horse Association (IALHA) Prix St. Georges Horse of the Year.

Katherine said, "I am incredibly grateful and humbled to be a recipient of TDF’s P.R.E. Horse Fund with Cariñoso CA. It is a huge honor to receive this grant that promotes the P.R.E. breed. My sincere thank you to the donors of TDF for their generosity toward and patronage of the beautiful and challenging discipline of dressage. I am very excited to use this funding toward furthering both Cariñoso’s and my dressage journey. At this critical point in our training, being able to enlist the guidance from professionals I respect and admire will be invaluable."

The purpose of this Fund is to celebrate and promote the Pure Spanish Horse/P.R.E. as upper-level dressage horses because of the breed’s natural abilities, talent, and disposition. Thanks to generous donors, one annual $2,500 grant will be given to a professional, adult amateur, or Young Rider (over the age of 16) competing at Prix St. Georges (or Young Rider equivalent) or higher. The deadline to apply is November 10. Information about the Fund and the online application are available at www.dressagefoundation.org.
