LEXINGTON, Kentucky, Nov. 8, 2014–Janne Rumbough rode her 12-year-old gray P.R.E. gelding Junior that she bred and trained from a youngster to capture the inaugural United States Dressage Finals Grand Prix Freestyle for Adult Amateurs Championship Saturday night. The 70-year-old resident of Palm Beach, a founder of the Florida dressage circuit more than three decades ago on which she has since become a fixture, was awarded the new Calaveras County Perpetual Trophy by artist Olva Stewart Pharo for the first winner of the event.

The crowd went wild and clapped to the beat of Janne’s Mary Poppins-themed music as Junior, an offspring of Janne’s stallion Gaucho III, celebrated the victory on a score of 70.708 per cent. The pair was runnerup in the Grand Prix both this year and 2013, the first year of these championships.

The Danish-born rider is also the owner of the Danish Warmblood mare My Lady that Wellington, Florida-based Mikala Münter Gundersen rode for the Danish team at last summer’s World Equestrian Games. An emotional Janne said after the win: “I’m just speechless. I am so honored to be the first one to have my name on this beautiful trophy, and to finally win a championship title like this. “It gives me chills to talk about it, I’m so grateful and honored. This has been a goal of mine for years, and now I can check it off the bucket list.  But I still want to come back next year and win the Grand Prix test, too!”

Janne began competing Junior in 2006 amd moved him through the entire training scale to make their Grand Prix debut in Florida in January, 2013. Her MTICA (More Than I Can Afford) Farm is located a few hundred yards (meters) from the Global Dressage Festival show grounds in Wellington.

Janne was riding ponies six decades ago in Copenhagen. She came to the United States first at the age of 22 to further her education. She moved to Florida in 1975 when there were no dressage competitions and helped build the circuit that is now one of the most concentrated in the world with seven CDIs over a period of three months in winter. In addition to competing, she is also a sponsor. She became an American citizen 18 years ago.
